You must be 18 years of age at the time of your appointment to Firefighter I. You will be required to follow oral/written directions, do heavy physical work, exercise good judgment in hazardous emergency activities, be willing to live in remote areas and work on weekends/holidays. Being physically fit is vital to your success as a firefighter.
Benefits and Earnings
CAL FIRE Fire Fighter 1 is eligible for the following:
$3672 - $4643 Base Salary (paid every month)
$1824 - $2305 Extended Duty Week Compensation (paid every 4 weeks)
$50,833 – $64,247 Annual Compensation (max of 9 months)
In addition to the above pay items, employees are eligible for medical benefits (health, dental, vision) and may be eligible for other pay differentials.

The CCC Wildland Firefighter Program offers Corpsmembers the opportunity to get paid while they train, earn certificates, and get hands-on experience on local and major wildland fires.
Individuals joining the California Conservation Corps must be:
18-25 years of age, or military veterans up through age 29
A California resident
Able to successfully pass fingerprint and background check, drug test, physical exam and training
Willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather and conditions
Willing and able to respond to emergencies and be away from home or assigned center for two weeks or longer
Willing and able to participate in the CCC education program
Military veterans ages 26-29 must be in possession of a DD214 with a discharge status of Honorable or General under Honorable Conditions
