Wildland Fire Academy
The Santa Cruz County Office of Education is proud to offer the opportunity to participate in our Wildland Fire Academy. Working in partnership with CAL FIRE and California Conservation Corps, students can complete trainings needed for an entry-level firefighter position.
Students will learn to recognize hazards and unsafe situations.
Trainings offered include:
Don (put on), doff (take off), and maintain wildland personal protective equipment
Deploy a fire shelter, maintain suppression hand tools and equipment
Assemble and prepare for response; construct and secure a fire line
Reduce the threat of fire exposure to improved properties
Mop up and patrol of a fire area when working with wildland fires
This course is designed to provide graduates employment opportunities with CAL FIRE or other agencies that accept this level of training.
